about me

The work of Chicago-born composer T.G. Bloom is drawn from other art forms such as paintings, drawings, and poetry and finding a translation from these mediums to music. His creative interests include intersecting his love for classical music with elements of jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music from his upbringing to create unique sound worlds that fully represents his identity. Bloom is particularly interested by other people, often writing about the strange tendencies of human behavior, social conventions, and utilizing the performer's agency through music that utilizes decision-making and controlled improvisation.

Bloom's work has led to recognition and collaboration from performers and organizations alike such as ASCAP, the JACK Quartet, Unheard-Of//Ensemble, Lati2de, /newline, and One Found Sound. His work has been performed at several festivals such as the RED NOTE Music Festival and the International Clarinet Association’s New Music Weekend. An enthusiastic collaborator, Bloom seeks ways to connect with his audience and other creatives alike.

Currently based in Ann Arbor, Bloom is pursuing a graduate degree in music composition at the University of Michigan where he studies with Michael Daugherty and Erik Santos. He completed his undergraduate work at Illinois State University where he studied with Carl Schimmel and Roger Zare.
